Since July 2018 it houses Town Hall Museum. In the Town Hall Museum - a branch of the Castle Museum in Oświęcim, there is a permanent exhibition entitled "W przestrzeniach historii. Dzieje miasta Oświęcimia” ("In the Spaces of History: History of the City of Oświęcim") showing eight centuries of the history of the town from  the Middle Ages through modern period till contemporary history and present time. The exhibition consists of film presentations, positions and interactive applications developing selected historical contents and multimedia showcases with exhibits. An undoubted attraction for visitors is the Praga car - Oświęcim Baby model from 1936 that allows a virtual journey through the streets of the former Oświęcim.

The Town Hall had stood in the middle of the market square since the mid-16th century. The building, at that time already 200 years old, was renovated in 1792. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by fire in 1863. The archaeological excavations conducted during the Main Market Square restoration resulted in the discovery of the fragments of the town hall wall.

In 1872 a resolution was passed to build a new Magistrate of the Royal Town of Oświęcim. The construction work started in April 1872 under the supervision of architect Leopold Michel. After three years, the local authorities moved to the completed building, which served them until the outbreak of World War II. After the war the municipal authorities moved to the castle, and since 1987, they have had their seat in the building at Zaborska Str.
